After the creation of Adam and Eve, \u201cGod blessed them and God said to them: be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it\u201d (Genesis 1, 28). The Lord Jesus Christ sanctified marriage by His presence at the marriage in Cana of Galilee and confirmed its divine ordinance, saying: \u201cA man will leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, and the two will be one flesh, so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. And so that God has combined, let not man separate \u201d(Gospel of Matthew, 19, 4-6).<\/p>\n<p>Why is the Sacrament of Wedding necessary, if the Lord Himself blessed the conjugal union in Paradise for all subsequent times? Of course, the marriage union is sacred. Ancient wisdom says that marriages are made in heaven. And the Christian Church did not initially dispute the validity and legality of the conjugal union. But, at the same time, the Christian worldview, along with other aspects of human life, required a special, Christian, consecration of such an important phenomenon as the conjugal union. The relationship of mutual Christian love between the members of the Church has penetrated into the conjugal union, transforming it into a special image &#8211; the image of the relationship between Christ and the Church.<\/p>\n<p>The Holy Apostle Paul says: \u201cThis mystery is great; I speak in relation to Christ and to the Church \u201d(Epistle of the Apostle Paul to Ephesians, 5, 31-32). The union of Jesus Christ with the Church is based on Christ&#8217;s love for the Church, and on the complete devotion of the Church to the will of Christ. Hence the husband is obliged to love his wife selflessly, and the wife is obliged to voluntarily, i.e. with love, obey your husband. The Apostle Paul says to husbands: \u201cHusbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the Church and gave Himself for her &#8230; he who loves his wife loves himself\u201d (Epistle of the Apostle Paul to Ephesians, 5, 25, 28). And to the wives he says: \u201cWives, obey your husbands as to the Lord, because the husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head of the Church, and He is the Savior of the body; but as the Church obeys Christ, so also wives to their husbands in everything \u201d(Epistle of the Apostle Paul to Ephesians, 5, 22-24). Thus, in the Sacrament of marriage, a special Divine grace is requested and given &#8211; to form a conjugal union of two believers in Christ.<\/p>\n<p>This, of course, places special demands on Christian marriage. The Church and Christ are inseparable. Therefore, spouses who have entered into a Christian marriage are not only obliged to preserve mutual love and respect, mutual devotion and fidelity all their lives, which is generally required from any marital union, but also to follow the path of spiritual perfection hand in hand, with the ultimate goal of eternal Kingdom of Christ. If the Lord blesses them to become parents, then their direct responsibility is to bring up children in the Christian Orthodox faith. All this should be remembered by couples who have decided to consecrate their married life with the Sacrament of marriage. Unfortunately, in our days there is a rather frivolous attitude towards this great Sacrament. Walking down the aisle, not every married couple are aware of what they are asking for God&#8217;s blessing for. The sad consequences of such a frivolous attitude are not long in coming.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Marriage is not compulsory for all Christians, but it should be remembered that those who voluntarily remain celibate are obligated to lead a pure, pure, and virginal life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Christian Orthodox Church extremely rigidly regulates the sexual sphere of human life. Any sexual intercourse outside of marriage is regarded as fornication (fornication) and is a mortal sin. You should also know that although the Orthodox Christian Church recognizes in principle the legality of a marriage concluded in accordance with the legal and moral laws of a particular country, there are a number of restrictions imposed on the Christian consecration of marriage. For example, the Orthodox Church has a negative attitude towards remarriage, marriages of persons who are in a close degree of kinship, and persons susceptible to mental or mental illness. And, of course, a church marriage is impossible if one of the married is an atheist or a representative of a non-Christian religion. Therefore, if you decide to get married, you should find out the possibility of consecrating your marital union with a priest or clergy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A wedding
